Nepali and Tibetan Summer 2020 Courses Announced

Save the date! This summer, Nepali and Tibetan Community-Engaged Language courses will run from May 11-May 22, 2020. These two-week, three-credit, introductory language courses blend classroom instruction with experiential learning among Nepali and Tibetan communities off-campus. For the first time, these courses will be fully integrated into the Asian Studies department with brand new course codes for both Nepali (NEPL 390A) and Tibetan (TIBT 390A). For further information and developing details, please visit our Language Program page.

By popular demand Binod Shrestha (Nepali) and Sonam Chusang (Tibetan), will be returning as instructors to lead students through a course across the lower mainland that one previous student has likened to a “travel abroad experience” right here at home! Interested in hearing more testimonials from past students? Please visit our Student Experiences page and check out videos from previous years at the Himalaya Program YouTube channel.

Registration for these courses is not yet open, please sign up for our mailing list to hear once registration opens and stay up to date! UBC students will be able to enroll according to their year level, as indicated on this page.

Not a UBC student? Non-UBC students interested in enrolling must apply through UBC’s Access Studies portal by March 15. Non-UBC students must first receive acceptance to UBC through Access Studies, so please apply as soon as possible.

For questions regarding undergraduate advising and registration, please contact Shirley Wong at asia.undergrad@ubc.ca.

These courses are supported by the Faculty of Arts Dean’s Office, a Teaching and Learning Enhancement Fund grant, a grant from the Centre for Community Engaged Learning, the Khyentse Foundation, and the Department of Asian Studies.
